Answers to the most common questions about the hackathon

Will the Energy Hackathon be held in person or virtually, and how long will it last? +

The Energy Hackathon will be held in person in Riyadh at the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) over three days, with the fourth day at the World Petroleum Congress (WPC). The bootcamp runs from April 23 to 25, and the closing ceremony will be held on April 30 at the World Petroleum Congress.

The team leader and at least one team member from each team are required to attend in person throughout the hackathon. Full attendance is a prerequisite for eligibility for prizes and financial rewards.

Hackathon schedule:

Day 1 & 2: Panel discussions, mentoring, and workshops.

Day 3: Solution presentations before the judging panel.

Day 4: Closing ceremony and announcement of winners.

Participants will receive a guide containing the detailed hackathon agenda before the event.

Who Can Participate in the Energy Hackathon? +

Interested individuals and professionals, including:

Students from relevant academic disciplines.

Engineers and researchers interested in innovation.

Entrepreneurs in the energy and technology sectors.

What Are the Basic Requirement to Join the Energy Hackathon? +

Basic Requirements to Join the Energy Hackathon:

Participants must be at least 18 years old.

Participants must be Saudi nationals or legal residents within the Kingdom.

The team leader must be Saudi.

Teams must consist of 2 to 5 members.

Participants must have an innovative idea that addresses one of the challenges presented in the hackathon.

Use of emerging technologies and digital solutions is required.

Only one idea per team may be submitted, and it must fall under one of the Energy Hackathon tracks.

Do Participants Retain the Intellectual Property Rights to Their Ideas? +

The intellectual property rights fully belong to the team that owns the idea and the project.

What Is the Process for Receiving Cash Prizes After Winning the Energy Hackathon? +

The prize will be disbursed exclusively to the team leader, who will be responsible for distributing it among the team members. The Ministry of Energy bears no responsibility or obligations in this regard.
